Wii U’s Suffering

Haaaaa

The Wii U has not had the easiest of times.

A lot has been said of Nintendo’s Wii U console and now it’s my turn to put in my Two Pence. The Wii U is the follow-up to the highly successful Nintendo Wii console.  The Wii was the highest-selling console of the last generation but the Wii U has been anything but a success thus far.

Sales have not met Nintendo’s expectations to the point where executives have had to take major pay cuts, seemingly every week a major third-party developer voices its reluctance to support the console and, perhaps most importantly, the Wii U is on the verge of being overtaken by both the PS4 and Xbox One. Put simply the Wii U is not in good shape.

All Recent Things SONIC

Mario vs Sonic vs Megman too!!

Ever since I found out the latest Sonic game would be a Wii U exclusive I haven’t given it much attention. I gave Sonic Colours the same treatment given it was a Wii exclusive. But the worst thing about it is, that this game looks really good to me. Even the 3DS version looks good and that’s saying something. The game’s world landscape is very different, for lack of a better word, to the other flat-based landscapes of Sonic adventure but in a good way.

These worlds are a lot more open, with more emphasis of exploration and platforming. I’m also a fan of the variations between acts within Zones. It’s probably the closest thing we’ll ever get to the ill-fated Sonic X-Treme. It just a real shame I won’t be playing it anytime soon.

Why DREAMCAST 2 will never happen

Firstly, I’m a old-school Sega fan. I grew up spending many-a-hour on the Sega Megadrive. I then bypassed the Sega Saturn to get to the glorious Sega Dreamcast. I’m saying this because a lot of what I’m going to say about Sega isn’t very nice…but it’s the truth.

Unhappy SonicOne thing I see a lot from Sega fans is for Sega come back into the console market with “Dreamcast 2”. Particular when close to E3. Some people believe that either Microsoft and Nintendo will drop out of the console race; leaving a gap for Sega to exploit. I for one am I’m telling you that this is not going to happen. I’ll go one better and say that Sega returning to the console market would be a terrible decision and that is why that we never happen and here’s why….

What 3RD-PARTY characters will be in the new SMASH BROS?

A gamer's wet dream.

A gamer’s wet dream.

The new Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS was announced  this week along with the game’s first new third-party character: Megaman! Super Smash Bros Brawl was the first game in the series to feature non-Nintendo characters; those being Solid Snake of Metal Gear Solid fame and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Fans now expect  these two third-party to return along with additional third-party characters such as Megaman and more. However,  Smash Bros producer Masahiro Sakurai has made the statement that this game is still to be considered an all-star collection of Nintendo characters at that any 3rd party character appearance would be a “special situation”. Still, fan speculation is running riot which begs the question. What third-party characters will be in the new roster? Will Sonic and Snake return?

SONIC LOST WORLD is Sonic X-TREME?

This is the debut trailer of Sonic Lost World and from this trailer it looks very different from its predecessors. Series producer Takashi Iizuka says the team is focused on “creating an all-new design for 3D Sonic games”  that is very much this case. While many gamers, have been quick to point out this game’s resemblance to Super Mario Galaxy, when I first watched this my mind immediately thought of the never-released game Sonic X-Treme.

NINTENDO-Only Sonic

Sonic DS

Sonic’s making himself at home on Nintendo’s turf.

The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has been really quiet as off late. Since 2011’s Sonic Generations; Sega has been uncharacteristically quiet about the next Sonic game that many have been waiting for until now. The newly awaited title is “Sonic Lost World”.

However the bigger news is that Sega have announced a exclusive partnership with old nemesis Nintendo which will have the next three Sonic games exclusive to Nintendo consoles the first of which being Sonic Lost World being a exclusive for the Nintendo Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS. That means no Sonic for Xbox or PlayStation owners for a while. Needlessly to say this has ticked off a lot of people and while I can’t say I’m thrilled I can understand the business logic behind this on Sega’s part and I ask for those fans who are unhappy to try to look at the positives for a second.
